Why SRA3 Paper Is the Go-To Size for Production Print Rooms

If you run a larger photocopier or digital press, SRA3 is probably your everyday sheet size. There is a good reason for that. It does a job that standard A3 simply cannot.

What makes SRA3 different?

SRA3 stands for Supplementary Raw Format A3. At 320 x 450 mm, it is slightly larger than A3. That extra space is there for bleed, crop marks and trim.

When you print a full-bleed prospectus, booklet or poster, you need room to print past the finished edge. If you try that on A3, you risk white borders once the sheet is cut. With SRA3 paper, you trim back to size and get a clean, professional edge every time.

In a busy reprographics room, that margin makes the difference between a smooth job and a reprint.

Built for digital presses

Most mid to high-volume digital presses are designed with SRA3 in mind. The sheet size works with the press mechanics, the gripper area and the finishing units.

You can impose two A4 pages with bleed on a single SRA3 sheet, then guillotine accurately. You can also run covers on heavier SRA3 card and trim after folding for a sharper finish. It keeps everything consistent, especially when you are producing prospectuses, revision guides or event programmes in volume.

In short, SRA3 fits the workflow of production print.

Reducing waste and protecting quality

Although SRA3 paper may cost slightly more per sheet than A3, it often lowers overall job cost. Edge defects become far less common, which means fewer reprints. In turn, your team spends less time dealing with white slivers along the trim and more time moving on to the next job.

Marketing materials, reports and certificates represent the organisation. SRA3 gives you control over the final result.

Choosing the right SRA3 stock

Not all SRA3 paper or card performs the same. You need to match weight and finish to your press. Silk or gloss stocks suit image-heavy work. Uncoated sheets work well for internal booklets. Heavier SRA3 card is ideal for covers and certificates.

Polycopy holds stock of a wide range of SRA3 sized papers and card options suited to larger photocopiers and digital presses. That includes everyday copier grades and higher-weight boards for covers, so you can keep jobs moving without hunting around for compatible stock.

So, now you know!

SRA3 is not a niche size. It is the working format for serious in-house print. It supports bleed, improves finishing accuracy and aligns with modern digital press capability.
