Creating a New Extra Provision Unit at Lowe’s Wong Junior School
Polycopy worked with Lowe’s Wong Junior School to create a dedicated Extra Provision Unit designed to provide a practical, comfortable and supportive environment for pupils with additional needs.
The project involved transforming several existing areas across the school, including classrooms, a sensory room, meeting and storage spaces, toilet facilities and entrance areas. External improvements were also incorporated to improve access, safeguarding and site security.
The classrooms were redecorated and upgraded with new flooring, storage and practical sink areas, while alterations to the layout improved connections between the main teaching spaces and the new sensory room.
The sensory room was designed to provide a softer, calmer environment, with suitable flooring and improved access directly from one of the classrooms. Meeting and storage areas were also refurbished and furnished to give staff practical spaces for planning, support and resources.
Further work included upgrading the toilet facilities, improving entrance flooring and replacing an external access ramp. New secure fencing and a lockable gate were also installed to strengthen safeguarding around the provision area.
The completed Extra Provision Unit gives Lowe’s Wong Junior School a more flexible and purpose-adapted environment, helping staff support pupils with a range of additional needs within one coordinated space.
