Creating a Sixth Form Space That Inspires: Iveshead School’s Collaboration with Polycopy
Overview
Located in Shepshed, Leicestershire, Iveshead School is a thriving educational institution experiencing rapid growth, particularly in its sixth form. With a brand-new building and an expanding student population, the school faced a unique challenge: designing a specialist space that would reflect the identity and needs of its older students.
The Challenge
Head Teacher Matt Parrott and his team recognised that their existing sixth form facilities were no longer fit for purpose. The space lacked flexibility, comfort, and the kind of environment that encourages both learning and social interaction. As the sixth form continued to grow, the need for a dedicated, thoughtfully designed area became urgent.
Key challenges included:
• Creating a space that felt special and distinct for sixth form students
• Supporting flexible learning styles and social engagement
• Delivering the project within a tight six-week summer timeframe
• Staying within budget while achieving a high-quality finish
The Vision
The school’s vision was clear: they wanted a space that felt more like a modern coffee shop than a traditional classroom. This meant:
• A variety of seating options including sofas, stools, and comfy chairs
• A layout that encouraged both collaboration and quiet study
• A design that students would feel proud of and comfortable in
The Solution
Polycopy was brought in early during the planning phase. Their team worked closely with the school leadership and architects to understand the vision and translate it into practical design solutions.
Collaborative Design Process
• Polycopy provided multiple design concepts and 3D visualisations
• The school engaged student focus groups to review and refine the designs
• Feedback from students was incorporated into the final plan, ensuring the space truly reflected their needs
Flexible, Student-Centric Furniture
The final design included:
• Soft seating areas for relaxation and informal study
• High tables and stools for group work
• Traditional desks for focused learning
• A layout that allowed students to choose how and where they learn best
Execution & Delivery
Despite the tight six-week deadline, Polycopy delivered:
• On-time installation ready for the September term
• Consistent communication and support, including in-person visits
• A seamless process that reassured the school throughout the summer
The Outcome
The new sixth form space was completed on time and immediately embraced by students. In the first week of term, staff observed students naturally adapting to the space, using it for both study and social interaction.
“Polycopy absolutely met our expectations. They were responsive, supportive, and delivered exactly what we asked for—on time and within budget. We wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.”
Matt Parrott, Head Teacher, Iveshead School
